Training has always been a fundamental aspect of TopperLyn Kennels. In actuality — the training has always been primary over breeding. We fully subscribe to the philosophy of — PRESERVE GAME — USE A TRAINED DOG. Training of versatile hunting dogs in the time-honored tradition of good solid basic obedience accentuates the experience of hunting over a talented dog with lots of natural ability. Nothing is more pleasurable than having a firm team relationship between you and your dog. All of our "started dogs" are actually trained to the NAVHDA Natural Ability level wherein they have good solid obedience (Whoa - Come) — are introduced to "fetch" — are worked over live birds both in the field and tracking — and are introduced to water. We do not operate our dogs at the end of a "remote control" as we believe good basic obedience is critical since you don't always have the collar on the dog. Safety is first and foremost for having a firm "handle" on your dog. There are no shortcuts. If you are interesting in having your dog trained by us, or in purchasing a puppy that we have bred and trained, please contact us for further details. We do not start training young dogs prior to 9 months of age with only rare exceptions based on the individual dog or if it is a puppy that we have bred and can start very gradually. Training is conducted for a minimum of 3 months and we require that you pick up your dog personally at the completion of it's training. You must participate in "transition training" sessions so that you fully understand how your dog was trained and what he/she knows. If you have a young dog that you want NAVHDA tested we will either run the dog for you or assist you in handling your own dog. |
