Big Sky NAVHDA Natural Ability Test

Hot Springs Montana

May 26, 2003

Benit Trinite du TopperLyn * Timon du TopperLyn

Prize III - Prize III

The NAVHDA Natural Ability test is a 3 phase test consisting of a 20 minute hunt, live bird track, and water test.  The test judges the dog's use of nose, search, pointing, desire, cooperation, tracking ability, and affinity for water.

Between the two dogs they found and pointed a total of NINE birds.  Jokingly the Club threatened to charge us extra for the birds.  Both dogs delivered several of the birds to hand, unharmed. The judges left the field with pockets full of soggy birds.  Needless to say - they were accompanied by a couple of pretty happy handlers.

A very special reunion took place over the weekend as well - The Big Sky Chapter of NAVHDA, [which was founded by Lynda], held their very first Natural Ability Test in May of 1977.   At that test, Josef Schmutz  ran his Large Munsterlander "Dachs."  Dachs was the first LM Joe ever ran in a NAVHDA test.  Mr. Schmutz was at the Big Sky test held over the Memorial Day weekend, however this time he was ONE OF THE JUDGES.  It was a welcome reunion for both Joe and Lynda.
